BBPS (Bharat Bill Payment System) is an integrated bill payment system operated by NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) under the guidelines of the RBI. It provides a standardized bill payment experience across all channels and payment modes, ensuring interoperability among all BBPS operating units.
BBPS currently supports 20,000+ billers across categories including electricity, gas, water, telecom, DTH, broadband, insurance premiums, loan EMIs, FASTag recharge, municipal taxes, education fees, housing society maintenance, and more. New billers are added regularly.
A BBPS Operating Unit is an entity approved by NPCI to participate in the BBPS ecosystem as either a Customer OU (accepting payments) or a Biller OU (representing billers). To become a Customer OU, you need RBI approval and NPCI certification. Our platform handles all the technical requirements for BBPS OU compliance.
Technical integration with our BBPS APIs takes 5-10 business days. However, if you need to become a registered BBPS OU, the approval process from NPCI and RBI can take 3-6 months. Alternatively, you can operate as an agent institution under an existing OU, which is much faster.
Commission rates vary by biller category. Typically, electricity bill payments offer Rs 3-8 per transaction, mobile recharges offer 2-4% of transaction value, and insurance premium payments offer Rs 5-15 per transaction. Our commission engine lets you set custom rates per category and agent tier.
